The
Falken Azenis FK520 and
Maxxis Victra Sport 5 are both high-quality summer tyres popular amongst automobile enthusiasts. Manufactured by
Falken and
Maxxis respectively, they have seen impressive performance in a variety of tests.
The Falken Azenis FK520, a UUHP summer tyre made in Turkey, comes with a rating of 82%. It is a successor to the Falken Azenis FK510. Evidently, the FK520 shows significant improvement in aquaplaning and offers comfortable, quiet driving, scoring 9th and 7th positions in ACE and SportAuto tests respectively. The Autobild testers particularly noted its impressive dry performances and qualities in reducing noise. Despite an agile performance in wet conditions, FK520's balance on wet surfaces could be improved.
On the other hand, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5, a UHP summer tyre made in China, has a rating of 75%. Unlike the FK520, the Victra Sport 5 hasn't replaced an earlier model. According to tests, the Victra Sport 5 impresses with its wet handling, securing a strong position in the ACE tests. It offers moderate resistance to aquaplaning and reliable wet performance, earning it the 9th place in SportAuto tests. Although the tyre has a reasonably good wear rate, noticeable limitations were spotted in its response time.
In comparative positions, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 performs better than the Falken Azenis FK520 in the ACE and Gute-Fahrt tests. Conversely, the FK520 outperforms the Maxxis Victra in the SportAuto and Autobild tests.
To summarise, the Falken Azenis FK520 stands out for its exceptional comfort, aquaplaning resistance, and exterior noise reduction but needs some improvement in wet conditions. The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 shines for its superior wet handling and safety reserves during aquaplaning, but could do better on response time and lifespan. Therefore, the FK520 might be more suited for those prioritising comfort and noise reduction, while Victra Sport 5 seems more advantageous for drivers needing secure handling in the wet.
